Day 3

Well so far it's been an exciting trip...the folks at the Albany YMCA have gone above and beyond...I can't begin to tell you how amazing they are, in many of them I have found life time friends.  The first day I had a woman form the Y, robin walk with me and stay over night..we had a nice camp ground, and a hot shower...I was, despite all my training, pretty sore..my hips where killing me. A combo of walking and sleeping on the ground...we walked 25.6 miles the first day, the second day she walked with me for a while, then I was on my own, I got 29 miles found another campground...this was a state camp ground...and it was on the honor system, I've never ear seen that before, you pick your site and put your money in the box...back home I think there would be no honor...funny.  After leaving that site this morning, kinda got a late start, shoved off at 11 am, planned to walk until 5:30, however at 4:45 I came across a camp ground that was closed, I slipped under the fence and set up my home for the night, right next to a beautiful river, I'm in my tent now, it's just getting dark, soon I'll be going to sleep... I'm crossing the cascade mountains, mostly up hill pushing the cart, thank goodness I'm in decent shape....I'm about 49 miles to the next town, I hope to get there by wed..although it's suppose to rain, well see how much it slows me down, I will for sure be stealth camping the next two night...  Today a news crew  from Eugene Or met me on the road did a story for the evening news, they said they would send it out for coast to coast distrubution, hopefully the story bets picked up, if it does it'll be on east coast tv tomorrow night and poss. Tomorrow morning on the AM shows...well that's about it for tonight...
One last thing..,thanks you to the woman in the red mini van yesterday who stopped to see that I was alright...and thanks to the man I. Sweet Home who offered me a shower..I'm sorry I didn't get your names, I need to get. Enter with that.

  2. Donna,

Are you walking roads the whole way? Are there places where you'd like support (food, treats) Include some "selfies" ok. I totally admire what you're doing. I took off last year to hike and solo travel, for a lot of the same reasons you described. Met a few other women, also in their fifties, doing the same thing. I only thought about a walk like yours.......your on the road! Best to you.

  3. Donna--Becoming part of my daily routine to check on your progress. Uplifting and inspirational. Should we be surprised that the spontaneous human interaction makes such a positive impression. Great stories. Concur in the comment above to take some selfies. You had said you were going to take at least one each day. Be Safe!!!! Steve

  4. Thousands of miles away and your story has already reached the East Coast, actually the eastern shore of Maryland. I wish you safe travel and God's speed.
