Cascades

Today I was up and walking by 8:30, the cascade mountains lay ahead, the altitude was killing me, had to stop nearly every 50 yards to breath, got 18 miles in all up hill...whew..killer, I had at 8 to 10 people stop and tell me they didn't think it was safe for me to try the 2nd peak or to camp out on the 2nd peak, as there was a fair amount of snow pretty cold, and a chance of snow/rain in the overcast, the last person to stop was a man, who had set out to meet me, he too had done a similar walk, I spoke with him for a bit, but what everyone had told me was weighing on me, I asked him for a ride over the next peak...I'm so happy I did...it was pretty snowy for sure, and looked like it would snow or rain any min.  Lesson learned on this trip, doesn't matter what anyone thinks, it only matters what I think, which is my safety above all comes first.  While it was kind of the man who drove me, and I'm thankful he did,  in hind site his partying remarks...that he walked the whole thing, where unnecessary.  The walk is something I want to do for me, there's no rules, my life and my safety aren't a game...

  1. We can all be comfortable in knowing you are not tackling the Cascades anymore, Donna. Wise choice. I was so worried about you. Remember there use to be automobiles that struggled with those two passes! Sleep well....

  2. Hi Donna, My name is Mandy. I met you outside of Sweethome near Cascadia in my red minivan. I am sure you will meet many people along your epic journey. I just want to encourage you to do what is right for you. Stay true to yourself and in all situations. Your story is so inspiring and I love that I got to meet you and follow you as you walk home. Be safe. Crazy drivers, Crazy! I feel like you should get a pole with a flag on top so people can see you from father and get more of a signal that "someone is walking here". Wishing you the best, the absolute best and thanks for the inspiration!
