Today
My life has been just as so many others before me—complex
and challenged. Like many women, I found
myself taking care of everyone and everything but myself. "I" had been taken over by
"us", "her", and "him"...the time had come for me
to get my "I" back. The four year journey back to "me"
wasn't an easy one: tears and disappointments, false starts and failures were
all part of the journey. I shed a husband, moved to a new state, lost and
gained some friends, and finally arrived at a place where I could focus on
myself and what I needed for my own health and success. I changed my diet (giving up all processed
foods—think about that for a second: nothing boxed, refined, canned...it wasn't
an easy adjustment. I started walking,
then running, then weight training. In
those first few months when results where hard to see, I wanted to quit (after
all, as Americans, we're raised on instant gratification). Recently I mentioned something to a friend
about rushing—he said rushing is for losers who don't have patience. I say only this: change is possible. Have
patience. Don't rush. Be true to yourself...and remember nothing
easily gotten is a reward.
